Self Care Isn’t Just Spa Days
It’s Giving Yourself What You Need to Thrive
When you scroll online, it can seem like self care is only
“real” if you’re doing something glamorous — like getting a facial, buying
expensive creams, or soaking in a Pinterest‑worthy bubble bath.
But the truth is: that’s not what self care is at its core.
Self care is simply giving yourself what you need to thrive.
For some people, that means drinking enough water.
For others, it’s letting themselves take the nap they’ve been resisting.
Sometimes it’s eating a snack because you realize you’re actually hungry.
Self care can be small, messy, practical, accessible — and still incredibly meaningful.
Self Care Isn’t One‑Size‑Fits‑All
A bubble bath is lovely… but not everyone has a bathtub.
And even if they do, not everyone has the time or space to relax in one
uninterrupted.
I love a good bubble bath — in theory — but in reality, I can’t stretch out in mine, and my kids definitely won’t let me soak in peace.
So instead, one of my forms of self care is listening
to loud, intense music.
It grounds me, helps me release tension, and gives me that “drowned-out world”
feeling that the bathtub would give me if it were accessible.
Your Version of Self Care Is Valid
Maybe you unwind by watching TV.
Maybe you decompress by taking a walk.
Maybe your self care is brushing your teeth without rushing, stretching your
sore body (hello plantar fasciitis😅), or finally taking that shower you’ve been
putting off.
These things count.
Meeting your basic needs is self care.
And sometimes we neglect those needs because we’re tired, overwhelmed, or taking care of others. But your mental and physical well-being are the foundation for everything else. Caring for yourself isn’t selfish — it’s essential.
Self Care Doesn’t Have to Be Expensive
Accessible self care might look like:
• Drinking water
• Eating when you need to
• Connecting with people who make you feel seen
• Taking 10 quiet minutes in your room
• Doing something creative
• Playing games with friends to feel connected
• Getting fresh air
• Resting your body
Self care is anything that helps you feel supported, grounded, and a little more like yourself.
You deserve to give yourself care in ways that work for your
life, lifestyle, body, and bandwidth.
And it doesn’t have to look like the polished version the internet keeps
pushing.
What’s one form of self care that actually works for you?
